The Presbyterian church ordains Deacons to serve in ministries of compassion. Deacons visit the sick and home bound, send cards, write notes, and pray and read Scripture with those in crisis. They provide assistance to people in and out of the church who might need food, rental assistance, transportation, etc. Deacons work with the pastors to provide home communion to those who cannot get to church. They also run the church's prayer chain.
